Local Business Community Partners with Charities to Make Home a Reality for Local
Woman
INDIANAPOLIS –Local homebuilder C.P. Morgan is pleased to be a part of the
second annual RTV 6 and Samantha’s House Foundation Miracle Makeover. The
Samantha’s House Foundation Miracle Makeover helps provide universally
accessible housing for seriously injured children in central Indiana.
In a collaborative effort, C.P. Morgan, along with RTV 6, the
Emily Hunt Foundation, Union Federal Bank, Ashley Furniture and the
Samantha’s House Foundation are partnering to improve the quality of
housing and the quality of life for this year’s recipient, Nicole
Richards. C.P. Morgan will be overseeing the building process and
carrying out their vision to provide more people with more home than
they ever dreamed possible.
“C.P. Morgan is honored to partner with local charities and
members of the greater Indianapolis business community to support
the second annual RTV 6 and Samantha’s House Foundation Miracle
Makeover,” commented Scott Bowers, Corporate Director of
Governmental and Community Affairs for C.P. Morgan. “C.P. Morgan is
dedicated to continually giving back to the overall community and
its citizens. This effort provides us with the opportunity to do
just that while supporting the noble causes of the Samantha’s House
Foundation.”
Nicole Richards, a 24-year old woman and recent graduate of Ball
State University, grew up on the south side of Indianapolis where
she was a state-champion gymnast and an excellent student. She had a
passion for living life to its fullest extent and demonstrated that
on a regular basis.
However, in February of 2000, traveling home from a gymnastic
meet at Ball State University, her life changed forever. Coming home
from the meet, Nicole was in a car crash that left her paralyzed
from the chest down. It also left her more determined than ever.
For the past six years, Nicole has not let her disability become
a barrier to her aspirations and passion. She completed her senior
year at Perry Meridian High School and went on to graduate from Ball
State University with a degree in Telecommunications. Nicole also
established the Nicole Richards Foundation, which raises funds for
spinal cord injury research.
“When we were looking for potential recipients for this year’s
home, Nicole Richards immediately stood out,” stated John Bain,
Samantha’s House Foundation board member. “Her strength of character
and determination to help others is truly inspiring. To say that she
is a deserving recipient of this home is an understatement.”
C.P. Morgan, with support of forty-six of their trade partners,
will once again be the official homebuilder for the Miracle Makeover
home. Construction of the home began at the groundbreaking ceremony
on June 27, 2006. The home is expected to be completed later this
summer.
“C.P. Morgan is excited to be a part of this project once again
this year. We are fortunate to have the support of so many of our
trade partners involved this endeavor, as they are instrumental to
our success,” stated Bowers.
The Samantha’s House Foundation was established in 2005 in honor
of Samantha Allen, who in May of 2003, was struck by a car crossing
the street in front of her home. In 2005 the Samantha’s House
Foundation, in collaboration with C.P. Morgan, RTV 6, Union Federal
Bank and others executed the inaugural Miracle Makeover initiative,
building Samantha Allen and her family a universally accessible
home.
With the success of the inaugural Miracle Makeover, the
Samantha’s House Foundation continues its mission to provide
families and individuals requiring special housing with suitable
homes.
Currently, Nicole lives in a partially-accessible home. When her
new fully accessible home is completed she will be able to live a
full and independent life.
“The Samantha’s House Foundation is excited about continuing our
mission to provide families in need with improved housing and
quality of life through this second annual project,” stated Bain.
“Everyone participating in this collaborative effort should be
commended. We are truly making a difference in this community and in
the life of Nicole Richards.”
About Samantha’s House Foundation: The Samantha’s House
Foundation is an organization that helps seriously injured children
in Central Indiana improve their surroundings and make their
everyday life just a little easier. This community wide effort
started when little Samantha Allen was involved in a tragic
accident. Samantha was hit by a car crossing the street and is
confined to a wheelchair with the same type of spinal cord injury
suffered by the late Christopher Reeve. She requires 24-hour medical
care and needed a house that would meet her significant medical and
daily living needs. Thus, the Samantha’s House Foundation was born.
With the help of community leaders and everyday people, money was
raised to build Samantha a house that would meet the everyday
challenges that any other little girl or boy would take for granted.
Recipients of the Samantha’s House Foundation Miracle Makeover Home
are chosen each year through an application process put forth by the
Samantha’s House Foundation. All applications are reviewed by the
board members of the Foundation and selections are made based on the
input of each member. For information on how to nominate a child or
young adult to be next year’s Miracle Makeover recipient, please
